The Supreme Court has set Monday, August 31, 2026, to rule on an injunction application filed by lawyers for former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Solomon Asamoah, seeking to restrain the High Court from proceeding with his trial.

The application seeks to halt the trial pending the determination of Asamoah’s request to quash the High Court’s decision ordering him to open his defence after dismissing his submission of no case.

His lawyers, led by Victoria Barth, have also asked the Supreme Court to quash the High Court’s decision varying his bail conditions.

However, Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, opposed both applications and urged the apex court to dismiss them, according to a report by 3news.com on Friday, August 28, 2026.

The Supreme Court constituted Justice Senyo Dzamefe as a single judge to hear the applications.

Asamoah is the first accused in the ongoing Sky Train scandal trial, in which he is standing trial alongside former GIIF Board Chairman, Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi.

The two have been charged with stealing, causing financial loss to the state and money laundering, among other offences.

Both accused persons have pleaded not guilty to the charges and are currently on bail.

The High Court directed the accused persons to open their defence after rejecting their respective submissions of no case.

The prosecution closed its case after calling three witnesses to testify in support of the charges.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on Monday is expected to determine whether the High Court can proceed with the defence stage of the trial pending the substantive applications before the apex court.
