Former Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has pledged to work to make NPP flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, president of the republic, following his election as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman.
Dr Okoe Boye made the statement in a Facebook post on Sunday, August 16, 2026, a day after securing a decisive victory in the party’s Greater Accra Regional Executive elections.
“We shall not rest until we make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia President of the Republic of Ghana,” he stated.
Dr Okoe Boye polled 488 votes to defeat his closest contender, Alfred Boye, who obtained 173 votes, giving him a winning margin of 315 votes.
He expressed appreciation to constituency executives for their support and participation in the election, describing the result as a ‘clear and emphatic endorsement.’
“I am deeply grateful. Thank you for the trust, encouragement and commitment throughout this journey,” he said.

“Thank you, Greater Accra. The Restoration Begins,” he added.
The election was held at the WAEC Hall in Tema on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Dr Okoe Boye succeeds outgoing Regional Chairman Divine Otoo Agorhom, who had earlier announced that he would not seek re-election after leading the region since 2018.
His election comes at a critical period for the NPP in Greater Accra, where the party lost eight of its 14 parliamentary seats in the 2024 general elections.
As Regional Chairman, Dr Okoe Boye is expected to lead efforts to reorganise and strengthen the party’s structures in the region as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
