The National Sports Authority (NSA) has inaugurated a five-member Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee as part of efforts to strengthen funding, strategic partnerships and sustainable financing for the development of Ghanaian sports.

The committee is expected to play a key role in mobilising financial and non-financial resources to support the implementation of the Reset Ghana Sports Agenda, with a focus on infrastructure, athlete development, youth empowerment and improved sports administration.

Speaking at the inauguration on July 14, 2026, NSA Board Chairman Dr Fred Awaah said traditional state funding alone could no longer meet the growing demands of Ghanaian sports.

He called for innovative financing models, diversified revenue streams and stronger partnerships with the private sector and international development agencies to support youth empowerment, infrastructure development and sustained athletic excellence.

“This inauguration is not a mere ceremonial gathering. It represents the concrete execution of our overarching research and transformation agenda,” Dr Awaah said.

He said the NSA must explore new ways of financing sports development while reducing overreliance on government resources.

According to him, stronger collaboration with corporate Ghana, development partners and other stakeholders would be critical to creating sustainable funding opportunities for the sector.

The committee, constituted following a resolution of the NSA Governing Board, will be responsible for driving partnership outreach, promoting financial sustainability and ensuring transparency and accountability in resource management.

The five-member committee is chaired by Samson Deen, with Yaw Ampofo Ankrah serving as co-chairperson.

Hadia Zainab Suleimani, Alhaji Umutawotu Igbukis and Mavis Ekuya Enyama Kwenu, who also serves as secretary, complete the committee.

Dr Awaah urged the members to approach their mandate as more than an administrative responsibility, describing it as an opportunity to create a lasting impact on Ghanaian sports.

He challenged the committee to identify credible local and international partners and pursue high-value opportunities capable of delivering measurable results for athletes, sports federations and communities.

He said partnerships should not be limited to financial contributions but should also provide technical expertise, equipment, infrastructure support, capacity building and opportunities for Ghanaian athletes.

Dr Awaah further stressed the importance of transparency in the management of resources mobilised for sports development.

He urged the committee to establish clear mechanisms for tracking partnerships and measuring their impact to ensure that resources are directed towards priority areas of the sector.

Deen pledges action

Chairman of the Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee, Samson Deen, pledged to work with members to deliver measurable results in support of the Reset Ghana Sports Agenda.

He said the appointment was not ceremonial but a call to action and a responsibility to help transform Ghanaian sport.

“Our acceptance of this role is a call to action,” Deen said, stressing the need for the committee to justify the confidence placed in its members.

He said the committee’s mandate would include mobilising both financial and non-financial resources, establishing credible local and international partnerships, creating support avenues and contributing to the rehabilitation and sustainable management of sports infrastructure.

“Our mandate is not simply to raise money for sport. Our mandate is to build a credible system that connects talent, investment, partnerships and national opportunity,” he said.

Deen said the committee would adopt an inclusive and accountable approach in carrying out its responsibilities.

According to him, the committee will engage corporate Ghana, development institutions, diplomatic missions, international sports organisations, communities and the media to build partnerships that can provide meaningful support for sports development.

He added that every partnership pursued by the committee must have clear objectives, transparency and measurable deliverables.

“Resource mobilisation must move Ghanaian sport from emergency funding to strategic investment,” he said.

Deen also emphasised the need to identify and develop sporting talent at the grassroots level, particularly through initiatives such as the Constituency Games.

He said every constituency should become a talent-discovery hub, a centre of community pride and a platform for opportunity.

The committee is expected to begin its engagements with key stakeholders as it develops strategies to attract investment and partnerships into Ghanaian sports.
