The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, ending his year-long tenure as caretaker of the Ministry.

Dr Ato Forson made the announcement in a Facebook post on Friday, August 14, 2026, following a formal handover ceremony during which the two ministers signed the relevant documents to confirm the change in leadership.

“I have just formally handed over the stewardship of the Ministry of Defence to Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei,” Dr Ato Forson stated.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as caretaker.

“I leave this Ministry with deep gratitude, a profound sense of honour and the satisfaction of duty fulfilled,” he said.

Adjei will now assume full responsibility for the Defence Ministry, including overseeing its operations and policy direction.

The handover brings to an end Dr Ato Forson’s interim leadership of the Ministry, allowing him to focus fully on his substantive role as Minister of Finance.

Dr Ato Forson was appointed to oversee the Defence Ministry by President John Dramani Mahama following the death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash.
