Rev Canon Prof Confidence Bansah, founder of the Centre for Religion and Public Life (CRPL) and Lecturer in Religion and Human Values at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has condemned the reported sexual abuse of an eight-year-old boy, calling for the matter to be handled with urgency and sensitivity.

Reacting to the reports in a post on X on August 14, 2026, Rev Canon Dr Bansah described the allegations as “deeply disturbing” and called for the strongest possible condemnation of sexual abuse against children.

“The reported sexual abuse of an eight-year-old boy is deeply disturbing and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. No child should ever be subjected to such a horrific act, and the fact that the alleged victim is a minor makes the situation even more serious,” he said.

He stressed that children are among the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected from sexual exploitation, abuse and violence.

Rev Canon Prof Bansah also called for the identity and dignity of the alleged victim to be protected, urging authorities and the public to handle the matter with the utmost sensitivity.

“If the allegations are established, the law must bite,” he stated.

“There must be no room for impunity when the safety and wellbeing of a child are at stake. Society has a collective responsibility to protect children, speak up against abuse and ensure that perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions,” he added.

His comments follow the emergence of a video on social media in which a young man, reportedly 24 years old, was allegedly caught sexually abusing the eight-year-old boy.

In the video, which was shared on X on August 12, 2026, the young man, identified as Morrison, was seen kneeling as some concerned individuals questioned him about the alleged incident.

According to an account given in the one-minute video, Morrison allegedly lured the boy, who was grazing cattle at the time, into a classroom with GH¢20.

It was further alleged that the young man had previously sexually assaulted the boy and had returned to allegedly repeat the act.

The emergence of the video has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with some users calling on the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

The incident has also renewed concerns about the safety and protection of children from sexual abuse.
