Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghana’s newly appointed High Commissioners and Ambassadors-Designate to vigorously promote the country’s interests and pursue opportunities that will contribute to national development.

She made the call on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when she commissioned the envoys on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.

The new envoys are expected to serve in Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger and Norway.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang said their assignments came at a time of significant geopolitical changes, making it important for them to be proactive and strategic in advancing Ghana’s interests.

“I therefore urged them to be visible and effective advocates for Ghana’s interests, deliberately pursuing opportunities in trade, investment, technology, education and other areas that advance our national development,” she said in a statement shared on X.

She also reminded the envoys that their responsibilities went beyond strengthening diplomatic relations to ensuring the welfare of Ghanaians living in their respective jurisdictions.

“Our citizens abroad must be treated with dignity, engaged consistently, and assured that their country and its missions remain available to support them,” she stated.

She urged the diplomats to build on Ghana’s existing relationships with their host countries, deepen bilateral cooperation, and explore new opportunities that could deliver tangible benefits to Ghanaians.

“In your respective assignments to Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger and Norway, I urged the envoys to build on Ghana’s existing relationships, deepen bilateral cooperation and pursue new opportunities to advance our national interests and deliver tangible benefits for our people,” she said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang assured the envoys of government’s support as they undertake their diplomatic responsibilities.

She further urged them to remain guided by the performance standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) introduced by President Mahama.

“I urged them to remain guided by the performance standards and KPIs introduced by the President and to approach their assignments with professionalism, integrity and a clear sense of purpose,” she added.

The Vice President congratulated the newly appointed envoys and wished them successful tenures, expressing the hope that their work would deepen Ghana’s international partnerships and create meaningful opportunities for the Ghanaian people.
