The Ghana Hajj Board has denied any association with Alhaji Sibamay Zakaria, the Muslim man who was captured in a viral video allegedly slapping Apostle Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, who had been arrested for propagating hate speech, at the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) refuted claims that Alhaji Zakaria, who is also known as Alhaji Papa Angola, was a member of the board.

“The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) wishes to state for the record that Alhaji Sibamay Zakaria, who is popularly called Alhaji Papa Angola, is NOT a member of the Ghana Hajj Board and does not represent PAOG in any official capacity.

“Any reports linking him to the Hajj Board are inaccurate,” the Hajj Board wrote.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, who was captured in a viral video assaulting a suspect.

According to a statement from the police on August 13, 2026, Zakaria is currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be put before court.

The statement also added that the Police Professional Standards Bureau has launched investigations into the issue.

“Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and all persons found culpable will be taken through the necessary disciplinary processes,” the statement read.

The Ghana Police Service earlier commenced a manhunt for Zakaria after he was captured in a viral video assaulting a suspect.

The Service strongly condemned the incident and said it had intensified efforts to arrest the suspect and put him before court.
