Ghana’s Black Queens have raised concerns over unpaid bonuses and what they describe as inadequate support from government on the eve of their crucial Women’s World Cup qualification playoff against Côte d’Ivoire.

In a joint statement, the players called for the immediate settlement of outstanding financial obligations, including bonuses for qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, tournament per diems and bonuses earned after progressing beyond the group stage.

The players also demanded improved management support, particularly in areas involving their mental health and general well-being, while insisting that they deserve to be treated with fairness and respect.

The Black Queens further accused the government of neglect, claiming that the Sports Minister and President have visited the team only once since they opened camp for the tournament.

Their concerns come at a critical moment, with Ghana facing Côte d’Ivoire in Casablanca on Thursday for a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Ghana missed out on automatic qualification after their quarter-final defeat to Malawi. The playoff now represents their final route to the global tournament.

The players have called for a swift resolution to their grievances as they prepare for the decisive encounter.

The latest dispute also comes months after the Black Queens previously threatened to boycott a WAFCON qualifier against Egypt over unpaid bonuses, before the Sports Ministry settled the outstanding payments.

The players are now urging authorities to address their current concerns as they fight to keep Ghana’s World Cup hopes alive.
