Speaker recalls Parliament from recess for 'urgent business'

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has recalled Parliament from recess to sit for five days to consider urgent parliamentary business.

Parliament is scheduled to resume sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, and continue until Friday, August 28, 2026, at Parliament House in Accra.

In a statement dated August 12, 2026, the Speaker said the recall was made in exercise of the powers conferred on him under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.

Speaker recalls parliament from recess for ‘urgent business’

The statement directed Parliament to sit from 12 noon on Monday, August 24, through Friday, August 28, 2026.

“I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, do hereby direct that Parliament shall, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, be recalled from recess to sit on Monday, at 12 noon of the 24th to Friday the 28th day of August 2026, at Parliament House, Accra, to consider urgent parliamentary business,” the statement said.

The recall comes while Parliament is on recess, with the Speaker exercising his authority under the Standing Orders to bring the House back before the end of the recess.
