The High Court in Accra has adjourned the trial of former National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, to August 17, 2026, after lawyers for both accused persons failed to appear.

According to a myjoyonline.com report on August 12, 2026, Abdul-Wahab informed the court that his lead counsel, former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, was sick and on admission.

Augustine Obuor, the counsel for the second accused (Faiza Seidu Wuni), was also absent.

The report added that Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, however, questioned the explanation for Dame’s absence.

He is said to have noted that the lawyer had earlier indicated he would not be available during the legal vacation and had petitioned the Chief Justice over the decision to proceed with the trial during that period.

Dr Srem-Sai further argued that if ill health was the reason, medical evidence should have been provided to substantiate the claim.

Meanwhile, Abdul-Wahab told the court he had received a copy of an application for a stay of proceedings filed at the Court of Appeal, scheduled for hearing on October 19, 2026.

He therefore appealed for a longer adjournment to allow the appellate process to take its course.

The presiding judge, however, adjourned the matter to August 17, 2026, directing counsel for the first accused to appear and address the court on the pending application for a stay of proceedings.
