The Office of the Attorney General has reportedly withdrawn its application at the Court of Appeal seeking to stay the execution of the court's decision to acquit and discharge former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Christine Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

According to a report by myjonline.com, the state attorneys during proceedings on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, told the court that they had filed a notice of withdrawal on August 10, 2026, effectively bringing the application before the Court of Appeal to an end.

The justices sitting on the case, Justices Sophia Rosetta Bernasko-Essah, Dr Ernest Owusu-Dapaa, and Ayitey Armah-Tetteh, then went on to strike out the challenge to its earlier ruling as withdrawn.

The Office of the Attorney General filed a motion at the Court of Appeal seeking a stay of execution of the judgment that acquitted and discharged former MASLOC CEO Christine Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.

The application, filed on Thursday, July 30, 2026, sought to suspend the effect of the Court of Appeal's decision while the Attorney General prepared to challenge the judgment at the Supreme Court.

According to the court documents, the Attorney General is asking the Court of Appeal to grant a stay of execution pending the determination of the intended appeal before Ghana's apex court.

The move follows the Court of Appeal's decision to overturn Tamakloe-Attionu's conviction after finding that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to prove the charges against her beyond a reasonable doubt.

The appellate court acquitted and discharged the former MASLOC boss after concluding that the evidence presented before the trial court did not sufficiently establish the alleged offences for which she had been convicted.

Tamakloe-Attionu had earlier been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the High Court after being found guilty of offences including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and breaches of procurement laws during her tenure as Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC.
