Nigerian football has been left stunned after Katsina United defender Chinedu Ozor, who was initially pronounced dead following a collapse during a pre-season match, was reportedly found showing signs of movement at a mortuary, according to The Sun.
Ozor collapsed during Katsina United’s pre-season encounter with Niger Tornadoes on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where a doctor reportedly confirmed his death.
He was subsequently taken to Katsina General Hospital and placed in the mortuary.
However, medical personnel later noticed movement from the player and he was immediately taken back to the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Heartland, who are among Ozor’s former clubs, shocked fans when they released a statement stating the player had been moved out of the mortuary following sudden hand movements.
“Reliable sources say Chinedu Ozor has been moved from the mortuary to the hospital after reportedly showing signs of movement. He is currently on oxygen as medics work to revive him,” the statement read.
Katsina United had initially announced Ozor’s death, prompting tributes from several clubs, including former employers Kano Pillars and Heartland.
Ozor only completed a move to Katsina earlier this month as preparations were made for the new season.
