The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting young people across Ghana as the country joins the global community in commemorating International Youth Day on August 12, 2026.

This year's global celebration is being observed under the theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," while Ghana has adopted the national theme, "Rebuilding Values, Inspiring Patriotism: Empowering the Youth in the Digital Age."

According to the Ministry in a press statement on August 12, 2026, the global theme highlights the shared aspirations of young people worldwide despite differences in their backgrounds, communities, challenges, and opportunities. These aspirations include access to quality education, meaningful employment, innovation, inclusion, dignity and a better future.

The Ministry explained that Ghana's national theme complements the global focus by emphasizing the need to rebuild positive values, strengthen patriotism, and equip young people with the digital skills and opportunities required to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The Ministry noted that young people across urban centres, rural communities, educational institutions, workplaces, and entrepreneurial ecosystems continue to demonstrate resilience, creativity and determination.

Their contributions, it said, are evident in sectors such as business, technology, agriculture, the arts, sports, public service and community leadership.

The Ministry stressed that young people are not merely future leaders but active agents of change who are already driving solutions to local and national challenges while contributing significantly to Ghana's social and economic transformation.

As part of its commitment to youth development, the Ministry outlined key areas of focus, including expanding opportunities for skills development and lifelong learning, supporting youth entrepreneurship and innovation, promoting decent employment and economic inclusion, strengthening youth participation in governance and civic engagement, and advancing mental health awareness and psychosocial support.

The Ministry also pledged to ensure that no young person is left behind regardless of location, gender, ability, or socioeconomic background.

It further called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, development partners, civil society organisations, educational institutions, and local communities to create an enabling environment where every young person can thrive.

According to the Ministry, Ghana's local theme serves as a call to action for all stakeholders to work together to rebuild the values of integrity, discipline, hard work and patriotism while empowering young people to harness the opportunities of the digital age responsibly and productively.

The Ministry encouraged young people to continue pursuing excellence, embracing innovation, and contributing meaningfully to national development.

"Our differences in experience enrich our nation. Our common aspirations unite us. By rebuilding values, inspiring patriotism, and empowering young people in the digital age, we can build a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Ghana where every young person has the opportunity to realise their full potential," the statement said.
