The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects believed to be members of an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and the Wa Municipality.

The arrests followed months of intelligence-led and coordinated operations by the Police in response to a recent trend of armed robbery incidents in the affected communities.

According to the Police, “the robbers attacked victims, inflicted machete wounds on them and forced them to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), which were subsequently used to transfer money from the victims’ accounts to the suspects’ MoMo accounts.”

The suspects have been identified as Amadu Moro, 35, Adama Yussif, 40, Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52, who is deceased, Iddrissu Adama, 35, Korika Issaka, 20 and Zakaria Brigi, 21.

“Preliminary investigations have linked Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman, who are believed to be key members of the gang, to robbery incidents at Kpenateng Junction, Kulkpara-Dapoha, Kpenateng Community and Piisi-Dapoha.

“The incidents occurred between March and August 2026, with the most recent reported on August 1, 2026.”

The Police said investigations have so far established that about GH¢22,070 in cash was allegedly stolen from victims, while an additional GH¢3,274 was allegedly transferred through the MoMo accounts of the victims.

Seven mobile phones have also been retrieved from the suspects and are being examined as part of the ongoing investigations.
During the operation, Nasiru Abdul Rahman sustained injuries and died upon arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital. His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, two other suspects believed to be connected to the robbery syndicate are currently at large.

They have been identified as Haruna, 30, who is alleged to be the armourer of the gang and Amadu Mahamudu, 24, the son of the deceased suspect.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has intensified efforts to locate and arrest the two wanted suspects.
