A founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has urged investigating authorities to ensure that no individual implicated in the power plant bribery scandal is shielded, regardless of their political affiliation.

He called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to pursue the investigations without fear or favour and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 on August 10, 2026, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said the officials mentioned in the statement by the United States court must not be spared.

“The most important thing is that the case that was held outside the borders of this country has mentioned names, and these names should not be withheld,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the investigations by EOCO and the OSP would affirm the findings of the US court and lead to accountability for those involved.

“If EOCO and OSP have been named for finally going into these, I believe strongly they would agree with what has been said by the US court and those involved; there shouldn’t be any person who should be shielded,” he stressed.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe further demanded transparency in the handling of the case, warning against selective justice in Ghana's fight against corruption.

“In this allegation, we demand transparency and there shouldn’t be any selective justice whatsoever,” he stated.

His comments follow the conviction of Kwaku Asante Berko, a former Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and former Goldman Sachs investment banker, in the United States over a bribery scheme linked to the development of a power plant in Ghana.

Berko, a dual US-Ghanaian citizen, was extradited from the United Kingdom to the US in July 2024 to face charges of bribing Ghanaian officials to secure the power plant deal.

He was convicted of paying more than $1 million in bribes in connection with the AKSA power project.
