Former Works and Housing Minister, Samuel Atta Akyea, has revealed that the decision by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to reappoint him as a minister in his second term came as a disappointment.

According to him, the decision was an error of judgment on the part of the former President, who, he said, was aware of his qualities and the impact he could have made.

However, Atta Akyea said he believes his political fortunes may not have been with the Akufo-Addo administration and could instead lie with a future government led by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Atta Akyea made the remarks in an interview with Roselyn Felli on Raw with Roselyn.

“It was the judgment of the President that the guy who succeeded him, the gentleman who worked in his law office and the man whom he was praying would one day become the Okyehene, he decided that I should step aside,” he said.

He continued: “It was a big disappointment. I also believe that it was an error of judgment because if you measure my commitment to the man and my proven record with him, he should have known that nobody could give him loyalty, the best output and commitment. He was aware of these things and the private things we had done together.”

Atta Akyea, however, said he had accepted the decision and remained optimistic about his political future.

“When one door is closed, many more are opened, and God knows best. For all you know, maybe I would have been in big trouble if I continued as a Minister.

“I believe whatever happened, happened, but we are soldiering on. In this game of politics, you don’t know where you’ll function best. Maybe my fortunes are with Bawumia and not Akufo-Addo,” he said.
