Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has weighed in on the ongoing national debate surrounding the “feud” between Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah after the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) presented its petition at the Flagstaff House during its “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration.

It may be recalled that the NPP earlier this month staged a demonstration dubbed the “Democracy Under Attack” protest, during which it expressed grievances against the ruling government.

During the demonstration, the Minority Leader, while presenting the party’s petition to the government, was heard referring to Nana Yaa Jantuah as a “nobody.”

Nana Yaa Jantuah, who was displeased with Afenyo-Markin’s statement, was seen responding to the Minority Leader.

In a recent development, Martin Kpebu, during a discussion on TV3 monitored by GhanaWeb on August 10, 2026, sent a stern message to President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the outspoken lawyer, the President should advise his appointees to toughen up and develop thicker skin.

He explained that President Mahama’s appointees occupy public offices to serve Ghanaians; therefore, they should not take offence when they are treated as public servants.

“I think JM has to talk to his people who listen; they need to develop tough skin. We've given them positions; they are servants; they should serve well. They are not to lord it over us. So if Afenyo-Markin says you are nobody, I don't know how ‘nobody’ is such an insult. We've moved on.

“She has to come out and apologise. It's not about personal feelings. We've put her in public office. The Constitution says that sovereignty resides in the people of Ghana. So the people of Ghana are the masters,” he said.

Referring to what has been described as an insult by Afenyo-Markin, Martin Kpebu noted that being referred to as a “nobody” should not be considered an insult.

“The public officer is not the boss. You are there to serve. So your master says something, you are not happy, there’s a way you deal with it. Just remember Hannah Tetteh’s tweet when Occupy Ghana went to serve during that demonstration.

“You see how, coming to the election, they used it. So this particular Jantuah video, that's not the end. I think the government should do a bit of damage control. She must come out and apologise for that speech that is unbecoming of a public officer,” he added.
