Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has taken a swipe at presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah following her recent back-and-forth with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin after the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) presented its petition at the Flagstaff House during its “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration.

In a TV3 discussion monitored by GhanaWeb on August 10, 2026, Martin Kpebu noted that there was nothing wrong with Afenyo-Markin referring to Nana Yaa Jantuah as a “nobody.”

According to Martin Kpebu, Jantuah should toughen up because she holds public office, adding that she had no reason to take offence at being described as a “nobody.”

He further noted that Nana Yaa Jantuah should apologise to Afenyo-Markin over some of the comments she made after receiving the petition on behalf of the ruling NDC government.

“If Afenyo-Markin comes to say Nana Yaa is a nobody, to be very candid with you, it is not an insult. Look, our democracy is stronger than this. Sometimes public discourse needs to be caustic; that is why JM himself called Akufo-Addo and co Akyem Sakawa mafia. And who arrested JM?” he said.

Martin Kpebu further called on public office holders in the governing NDC to stop what he described as unwarranted and childish complaints, arguing that they are in office to serve Ghanaians and should be prepared to accept criticism that comes with their positions.

Citing an earlier precedent involving the NDC's Ato Forson while in office, Martin Kpebu referred to an incident in which the Finance Minister allegedly described a senior military officer who received a petition on behalf of the NPP government as a “nobody.”

“So, I think that she has to come out and apologise. It's not about her feelings. We've put her in public office. You see how, coming to relate, they used it. So this particular Nana Yaa is a nobody video; that's not the end we've seen.

“I think an apology will be in order. Ghanaians are very shrewd, though. Ghanaians are very savvy. Don't think that's the end of this episode. Wait, in 2028, when they start playing it back, there would have been a few other mistakes by then. When they put them together, NDC, they will win the election, but they will be in trouble,” he added.
