The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has given traders and other occupants on portions of land at Agbogbloshie, popularly known as Nzema Market, a one-month notice to vacate to pave way for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market.

In a post shared on its Facebook page on August 10, 2026, it said the month's notice given to the traders will expire on August 28, 2026, after which the Assembly will begin removing structures located on the affected portions of land.

AMA gives Agbogbloshie traders August 28 deadline to vacate

"The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has given traders and other occupants on portions of land at Agbogbloshie popularly referred to as Nzema Market earmarked for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market a one-month notice to vacate.
The notice period is expected to expire on August 28, 2026, after which the Assembly will begin removing structures located on the affected portions of land", it stated.

According to AMA, all traders and commercial operators affected by the exercise will be relocated to a parcel of land prepared specifically for them.

"All affected traders and commercial operators at the Agbogbloshie Cargo Station, the Nzema Market and portions of the Yam Market will be relocated to a parcel of land prepared by the Assembly solely for the affected persons", the post stated.

The Assembly has urged affected persons and other stakeholders to cooperate with the process as it works towards the redevelopment of the area.

The redevelopment forms part of efforts to establish a 24-Hour Economy Market at Agbogbloshie, with the AMA expected to oversee the clearance and relocation process before construction begins.
