Some football fans and concerned individuals are livid over the Black Queens’ failure to secure qualification to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-finals.
The Queens lost 2-1 to Malawi’s Scorchers in a tense encounter, missing out on a semi-final spot and complicating their path to the 2027 Women’s World Cup, as they now have to go through the playoffs.
The game was tight from the start, but Ghana dominated early and piled on pressure, leading to the opening goal from Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, who produced a composed finish to give the Queens control.
Malawi stun Ghana to end Black Queens’ WAFCON title hopes
Malawi responded fiercely, mounting relentless attacks. Their persistence paid off in the 12th minute when Temwa Chawinga equalized, restoring parity and setting up a tense battle.
The decisive moment came in the 79th minute when Rose Kadzere struck to complete the turnaround, putting the Scorchers ahead for the first time.
Some aggrieved fans vented their anger at head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, criticizing his inability to deploy effective tactics to maximize the players’ potential, describing the team as “clueless” at times. He was further lambasted for his triple substitutions late in the game, which slowed the Queens and gave the Scorchers more space to dominate.
Others questioned the commitment level of the Black Queens players, arguing that Malawi showed greater hunger to qualify, making their victory deserved.
There were also calls for an overhaul of the team, with some fans insisting that certain players are not good enough to represent the nation and should be replaced by younger talents who could excel.

The coach is clueless...some of us the few lovers of the beautiful women game pointed out this even in the last tournament Bjorkegren was riding on the good work done by Häuptle...why wasting our resources on Bjorkegren

They got tired easily. Our striker was too lazy. The subs that came in late were also tired. I guess the coach was also tired 🤣🤣🤣

This coach should be sacked ASAP..We are just wasting our money on him. They're just kicking the ball and running.. No tactics.. nothing. Sack him to save the taxpayer some money.
