New Coventry City signing Caleb Yirenkyi has revealed that a conversation with head coach Frank Lampard convinced him to join the Sky Blues, with the Ghanaian midfielder describing the club's plans as exactly what he was looking for.

The 20-year-old, who completed his move to the Premier League newcomers from FC Nordsjaelland, spoke enthusiastically about working under the former Chelsea and England midfielder.

"When I spoke to the Head Coach about the plans and the style, it's something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him," Yirenkyi said.

The midfielder, who became a household name in Ghana following his dramatic stoppage-time winner against Panama at the 2026 World Cup, had been linked with several top European clubs. However, a conversation with Lampard proved decisive in his choice to join the Sky Blues.

Yirenkyi, who can operate as a deep-lying playmaker or more advanced midfielder, made 67 competitive appearances for Nordsjaelland, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists. He was also named in the Danish Superliga Team of the Season.

His decision to join Coventry reflects his belief in Lampard's vision for the club, as the Sky Blues prepare for Premier League football for the first time in 25 years.
