Coventry City have completed the signing of Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjaelland in what is reportedly a club-record transfer.

The Championship club have not disclosed the fee but the deal is understood to be worth around £26 million. Yirenkyi will now continue his career in England under former Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard.

The 20-year-old came through Ghana's Right to Dream Academy before moving to Denmark in 2024. He made his senior debut for Nordsjaelland at 18 and quickly established himself as one of the country's most exciting young talents.

Yirenkyi enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, helping Nordsjaelland finish third in the Danish Superliga and secure UEFA Conference League qualification. His performances also earned him the league's Young Player of the Year award and a place in the Team of the Year.

He further raised his profile on the international stage by scoring Ghana's winning goal against Panama during the 2026 World Cup.

The midfielder is relishing the opportunity to work with Lampard and believes the manager's plans convinced him to make the move.

“I’m excited to be at this club. I’ve heard so much about it and I really feel positive about being here. When I spoke to the Head Coach about the plans and the style, it’s something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him,” Yirenkyi said.

Despite his rapid rise, the Ghanaian knows there is still plenty to learn as he begins a new chapter in England.

“I want to give my best to the team each and every day. I’m still young so I want to learn from the Head Coach, the other players and work really hard for the team,” he added.
