The Bui Power Authority (BPA) generated US$145.9 million in revenue in 2025, as increased electricity production and the expansion of its solar portfolio helped strengthen the state-owned power producer’s financial performance.
The Authority recorded a net profit of US$66.2 million for the year, with total electricity generation rising to 1,438 gigawatt-hours (GWh), according to its 2025 Corporate Annual Report.
BPA’s generation exceeded its 1,350GWh target for the year by 6.5% and improved by 6.7% compared with the 1,348GWh produced in 2024.

The Bui Hydroelectric Plant remained the biggest contributor to the Authority’s output, generating 1,339GWh in 2025, representing a 5% increase over the previous year.
At the same time, BPA’s growing solar business made a stronger contribution to its overall generation.
Solar output increased from 76GWh in 2024 to 102GWh in 2025, following the commissioning of an additional 50MWp under its 100MWp solar project.
The expansion increased BPA’s installed solar capacity from 55MWp to 105MWp by the end of 2025, comprising land-based and floating solar facilities.
The Authority also made progress in recovering outstanding receivables from major customers, an issue that has continued to put financial pressure on companies operating within Ghana’s electricity supply chain.

BPA Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, said the Authority maintained operational stability during a year marked by leadership changes at the Ministry of Energy, its Board and Executive Management, while adapting to changes in policy direction.
With its revenue base supported by increased generation, BPA is positioning itself for further growth in 2026.
The Authority plans to complete several solar projects and expand its renewable energy portfolio as it seeks to increase generation capacity and strengthen its financial sustainability.
