Ghana’s Presidential Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region, King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, has ignited widespread discussion after remarks in which he described Ghanaians as lazy during a live appearance on Starr FM’s #StarrChat programme.

In a post by GHOne TV and sighted by GhanaWeb on August 7, 2026, KKD is quoted as having said that Ghanaians are lazy.

Following this, the post has generated mixed reactions on social media.

Some users criticised the generalisation, arguing that he should not be blamed simply because he has held high positions that allow him to disrespect others.

Others also called him out for lumping everyone together.

According to them, they wake up early to go to work, and seeing such messages after their hard day's effort is not something they would want to wake up to.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time he has been quoted as saying such. KKD has previously used similar language.

In a June 2026 interview, he described aspects of Ghana’s approach to cultural and creative exports as “indolent,” explaining that the country had “done part of the work and left part of the work thinking somebody should come and do it,” equating indolence with laziness in that context.

"This life deɛ if ur own source u go figa others no dey try. It takes grace to really breakthrough this kind of system as a poor man but most of these people were privileged to have come from rich families so they won’t notice. Hard on the grace part," one user wrote on X.

Another user added, "Oh this same man??? I agree with him to some extent mmom. The lazy ones voted for his govn't to come to power and now he's an ambassador who will be able to take care of his gay son. So I'm not hurt."

"Because your Grandfather’s left it for you. I don’t blame you," one other user said.
