The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has downplayed the significance of a petition presented by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) following its “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration.

According to him, the document is lacking substance and unlikely to influence government priorities.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, Gbande said the government remains focused on delivering on its mandate and addressing the concerns of Ghanaians rather than being distracted by what he characterized as politically motivated activities by the opposition.

“Let me assure you that that petition they have submitted, nobody is going to have time to read it because it doesn’t make sense, and nobody is going to waste time. We have a nation to build. We have a country to build,” he said.

His comments came shortly after the NPP submitted a petition to the Presidency at the conclusion of the nationwide protest.

According to Gbande, the successful conduct of the demonstration serves as evidence that democratic principles and constitutional freedoms continue to be upheld in the country.

He noted that participants were able to organize and carry out the protest without interference, while security personnel ensured law and order throughout the event.

The presidential aide further argued that the issues raised in the petition do not warrant serious government attention, insisting that the administration is focused on governance and national development.
