The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has rebuffed claims that its President, Gianni Infantino, attempted to call United States President Donald Trump but was ignored.

According to the New York Post, Infantino’s attempts to reach President Trump directly through phone calls had been unsuccessful. The report alleged that Infantino was seeking Trump’s intervention to save his job as FIFA boss, amid growing calls for his resignation following his failed attempt to sell World Cup stakes to private investors.

However, in a statement to Reuters, the world football governing body denied the claims, labeling them as “pure fiction” intended to tarnish the organization’s image.

FIFA clarified that Infantino had not tried to contact President Trump or any members of his administration, contrary to public speculation.

They urged the public to disregard the report, describing it as misleading and lacking any truth.

“The FIFA President has not made any call to the U.S. President, or any members of his administration, in recent days. It is pure fiction,” FIFA told Reuters.

Despite abandoning plans to sell World Cup stakes to private investors, UEFA continues to demand Infantino’s resignation, accusing him of harboring plans that could undermine the integrity of the game.
