The Water Resources Commission (WRC) has warned that controlled water spillage from Burkina Faso's Bagre Dam could begin on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, if the reservoir level reaches 234.00 metres.

In a statement issued on August 5, 2026, the Commission said SONABEL, the operator of the Bagré Dam, had indicated that the reservoir's water level stood at 232.93 metres as of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with the dam 62.77% full.

According to the Commission, the controlled spillage will commence if the reservoir water level rises to 234.00 metres.

"SONABEL plans to commence controlled water spillage from the Bagre Dam from Tuesday, August 11, 2026, if the reservoir water level reaches 234.00 metres," the statement said.

The Water Resources Commission advised communities along the White Volta River and adjoining areas to take the necessary precautions and strictly adhere to safety guidelines issued by their respective local assemblies and relevant state agencies.

"Communities along the White Volta River and adjoining areas are advised to take the necessary precautions and adhere to safety guidelines from the local assemblies and the appropriate agencies," it added.
