Black Bombers head coach Ofori Asare has revealed that Ghana's boxing team was plagued by serious logistical challenges at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, forcing some boxers to share competition kits during the tournament.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM after Ghana's disappointing campaign, where the Black Bombers managed only one bronze medal, Ofori Asare said inadequate preparation and the lack of essential equipment affected the team's performance.

According to the veteran trainer, three Ghanaian boxers had to share a single set of competition gear because the team did not receive the kits they had been promised before leaving for the Games.

"Three of my boxers were using one canvas that belonged to one of the athletes. We had to keep asking her to share it. Sometimes I even had to borrow equipment from coaches of other countries whom I have trained before because there was nothing available for my boxers," he revealed.

Ofori Asare also disclosed that some of the kits provided were either the wrong size or did not meet international competition standards, forcing him to improvise during bouts.

He recounted one incident where a boxer was at risk of disqualification because his protective gear did not fit properly, compelling the technical team to use plastic tape to secure the equipment while the fight was ongoing.

"If you watch some of the videos, you will see me instructing the boxer while trying to fix the equipment because it was coming off. I had to look for plastic tape to tie it around the protector. It was very painful, but there was nothing I could do," he said.

The Black Bombers coach further claimed that the team travelled to the tournament believing all the necessary equipment would be delivered upon arrival, only to discover that the promised kits were unavailable.

"We were told everything was ready and would be brought to us there. When we arrived, we kept asking for the kits and other items, but they never came. It was very sad."

Ofori Asare added that he even used an ink pen to cover worn-out sections of Ghana's competition vest so that officials would allow his boxers to compete, describing the experience as one of the most difficult moments of his coaching career.
