Aminata Bangoura, a former partner of a senior Guinean military officer and government official, General Amara Camara, has reportedly locked herself in a washroom at the Accra International Airport following an alleged attempt by Ghanaian authorities to deport her.

Bangoura was reportedly arrested in Ghana following an INTERPOL alert.

According to her lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Bangoura was taken from the Cantonments Police Station to the airport on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, for deportation to Guinea.

“At 7 am, my client Aminata Bangoura was removed from Cantonments Police Station and sent to the airport to deport her without any court order.

“She has since locked herself in the toilet at the airport and is demanding that her lawyer be present,” he wrote in a social media post.

Barker-Vormawor, who said Bangoura is a Belgian citizen, claimed he had contacted European authorities over the alleged attempt to deport her to Guinea without due process.

“I have been at Interpol since morning asking to meet the director without audience. Are we serious as a country? I have contacted European authorities over this attempted deportation of a European citizen to Guinea, without due process,” he said.

The lawyer-cum-activist also alleged that Bangoura’s life could be at risk because of her past relationship with Brigadier General Amara Camara, Guinea’s Minister of State and Secretary-General of the Presidency.

Barker-Vormawor had earlier alleged that Bangoura was arrested in Ghana following an INTERPOL request from Guinea.

In a social media post, he claimed that Bangoura, whom he identified as a Belgian citizen, was arrested at about 5:00 a.m. on August 4, 2026, shortly after arriving in Ghana from Paris.

According to the lawyer, Bangoura was previously in a relationship with Brigadier General Camara, with whom she reportedly has two children.

He further alleged that following a bitter breakup, Bangoura threatened to disclose information she allegedly knew about the senior Guinean official.

Barker-Vormawor claimed that Bangoura subsequently fled Guinea with her siblings, citing concerns for her safety.

He also alleged that Guinean authorities later placed Bangoura on an INTERPOL Red Notice in an attempt to facilitate her return to Guinea.

According to Barker-Vormawor, Bangoura has informed Ghanaian authorities that she fears for her safety if returned to Guinea and intends to seek political asylum in Ghana.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and the circumstances surrounding Bangoura’s arrest and the reported deportation attempt remain unclear.
