A woman has recounted how she lost her two children, home and source of livelihood in the recent floods that hit Accra.

Narrating the tragic incident in a viral video sighted by GhanaWeb on August 4, 2026, the woman, identified as Bridget, said she and her two children, aged 9 and 7, were sleeping in a kiosk when floodwaters entered their makeshift home between 6:00 am and 7:00 am.

She said she asked her children to stand on a table as the water level continued to rise.

“My landlord asked us to move to another kiosk because the water was too much. Later, I was informed that my kiosk was being carried away by the floodwaters, so I became dizzy immediately,” she recounted.

According to Bridget, while trying to escape, a nearby wall collapsed, forcing them to move again to a safer location.

She said they reached an area with a large gutter where she struggled to keep hold of her children.

“I was holding their hands, so I asked a man to assist me because I was still feeling dizzy. At that moment, my children were carried away by the water. I was saved by a good Samaritan,” she said.

The tragedy has left Bridget without her children, shelter and the business that provided her daily income.

The floods on June 30 were a result of a series of heavy downpours that began on June 29, 2026.

The floodwaters inundated more than 25 communities across 18 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), submerging homes and businesses and disrupting transportation services.
