National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has cautioned that public service loses its true purpose when those entrusted with serving the people become the primary beneficiaries of their positions.

In a post shared on his X account on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah said the effectiveness of service should be judged by a simple standard, who ultimately benefits from it.

According to him, leadership ceases to be genuine service when its rewards flow more to those in office than to the citizens they are meant to serve.

“Service has a simple test: who benefits? When the benefits keep flowing to the one serving instead of the people being served, it stops being service and becomes self-interest,” he indicated.

Asiedu Nketiah stressed that the true measure of service is reflected in the positive impact it has on the lives of people through improved living conditions, solutions to challenges and the fulfilment of promises.

“True service is measured at the receiving end, in lives made easier, in problems actually solved, and in commitments honoured. That test never ends, and no office is exempt from it,” he stated.

He also noted that the responsibility to serve is not limited to those holding public office, urging individuals to respond to the needs of others within their communities.

“Service is not only reserved for office holders. There is a need near each of us right now, waiting for someone willing. Be the willing,” he said.
