The Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has paid glowing tribute to the late former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, describing him as a kind-hearted and dedicated individual whose death is a great loss to the country.

In a video tribute ahead of the memorial lecture on August 4, 2026, Dr Ayew Afriye said he and the late Dr Omane Boamah shared similar paths in medicine and politics; however, their political differences did not affect their bond, as they continued to maintain a cordial relationship.

“Kofi was a good person. He was very lovable; he had a smiling face. We had similar paths in medicine and politics, but we ended up in different political parties. That did not end our relationship,” he said.

Dr Ayew Afriye recounted how they often teased each other, describing the late Minister as a person with a good heart who excelled at every task assigned to him.

“Any task you gave him, he would execute it to perfection, and you will love him for that. Indeed, Ghana has lost a gem,” he added.

The maiden Annual Public Lecture in honour of Dr Omane Boamah will recognise his contributions to Ghana’s national security framework and his public service career.

The event will focus on his leadership in the defence sector, including his contributions to regional security cooperation, military welfare and national defence strategy.

A panel of security experts, academics and defence officials will also discuss emerging security challenges in West Africa, civil-military relations and the modernisation of Ghana’s defence infrastructure.

Dr Omane Boamah died alongside seven others on August 6, 2025, after a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
