The Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMC) is projecting its highest monthly output in August 2026, with production expected to reach 700,000 tonnes.

In a statement issued Monday, August 3, 2026, the company attributed the surge to improved weather conditions and the commissioning of new heavy‑duty mining equipment.

The milestone marks a major step toward GMC’s annual target of 8 million tonnes.

“With August production approaching 700,000 tonnes, overall operational performance in the second half of the year will improve significantly,” the statement noted.

Mining activities at GMC’s Nsuta open‑pit mine in the Western Region had been hampered by heavy rainfall in recent months, slowing ore movement and operations.

However, reduced rainfall in August has improved pit conditions, creating a more favourable environment for production.

The company said the introduction of high‑capacity equipment, alongside better weather, has strengthened its ability to deliver one of its best monthly performances in recent years.

GMC, Ghana’s only manganese producer and exporter, added that its high‑grade carbonate manganese ore remains vital for steel production and is increasingly in demand for the global battery and clean energy industry.
