Dr Jinapor orders GRIDCo to probe July 29 power system disturbance

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has directed the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to submit a comprehensive report into the power system disturbance that resulted in widespread outages across parts of the country on July 29, 2026.

The directive follows a meeting between Dr Jinapor and key stakeholders in the power sector to assess the current state of the sector and review recent developments.

In a post shared on his social media page on August 3, 2026, Dr Jinapor said the widespread outage resulting from the July 29 disturbance was a key focus of the discussions.

"I have charged GRIDCo to submit a comprehensive report detailing the circumstances that led to the disturbance, the response measures undertaken, and the corrective actions required to strengthen the resilience and reliability of our power system," he said.

Dr Jinapor said the review forms part of efforts to identify challenges within the power sector and implement measures to improve the reliability of electricity supply.

He assured that the government remained committed to strengthening the power sector to support economic growth and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

"Together, we will build a stronger and more resilient power sector that powers economic growth, supports businesses, and improves the lives of our people," Dr Jinapor added.
