President John Dramani Mahama and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were among dignitaries who attended the enskinment of the Regent of Dagbon at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
The ceremony, held on July 31, 2026, attracted traditional leaders, government representatives and residents who gathered to witness the historic occasion and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Dagbon Kingdom.
The event featured traditional rites and activities marking the formal recognition of the Regent, with dignitaries paying their respects to the Dagbon traditional authority.
The presence of the two political leaders underscored the significance of the occasion, as stakeholders came together to honour the unity and traditions of the kingdom.
Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Abukari was officially installed and publicly presented as the Regent of Dagbon following the passing of the Overlord, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, on July 11, 2026.
In his new role, Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Abukari will oversee the affairs of the Dagbon Kingdom until the completion of the final funeral rites of the late Ya-Na and the selection of a successor in accordance with Dagbon’s customs and traditions.
