A rare photograph has emerged showing the late diplomat and statesman James Victor Gbeho alongside several prominent personalities, including former presidents.

The image, shared years ago by the veteran statesman on his Facebook page, captures Ambassador Gbeho with former Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaoré, former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings, and the late former President John Evans Atta Mills.

Also featured in the historic photograph is former First Lady Ernestina Naadu Mills. The dignitaries are seen with composed expressions, suggesting the picture was taken during an official national event.

Ambassador Gbeho was laid to rest at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra on Friday, July 31, 2026, with government officials, diplomats, traditional leaders, family members and other dignitaries in attendance.

The state funeral attracted a wide range of personalities who gathered to honour one of Ghana’s most distinguished diplomats.

Born in Keta on January 12, 1935, Ambassador Gbeho was the son of Louise Kukubor and Philip Gbeho, the renowned composer of Ghana’s National Anthem.

After studying English, Philosophy and History at the University of Ghana, he joined Ghana’s Foreign Service in 1959 and served the country for more than five decades in various diplomatic roles.

Throughout his career, Ambassador Gbeho worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and represented Ghana in several international assignments. He also held key positions at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations, where he served as President of the UN Security Council.

Ambassador Gbeho passed away on June 13, 2026, at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife, Edith Adoley Gbeho, and their four children.
