Enoch Deegbe, lawyer for former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, has indicated that a decision on whether to seek compensation following the acquittal and discharge of his client by the Court of Appeal will only be made after consultations with her.

According to him, although the law provides an opportunity for persons who have been wrongfully imprisoned to pursue compensation, he has not been instructed to initiate such a process.

In a report by adomonline.com on July 31, 2026, Deegbe said his mandate ended with the successful appeal that overturned Madam Tamakloe Attionu's conviction.

He, however, added that the possibility of seeking compensation remains open after discussions with his client.

"My instruction was to pursue an appeal. I don't have any further instruction on compensation.

"But once I engage my client and we analyse how things went, and if that advice is plausible, why not? We will look at it," he stated.

Deegbe reiterated that Tamakloe-Attionu consistently denied all the charges brought against her, placing the burden on the prosecution to prove its case.

"Sedina denied the charges that were levelled against her, so the onus was on the prosecutors to prove it," he explained.

He noted that under the law, a conviction can only be secured through an accused person's admission or evidence presented by the prosecution establishing the committing of an offence.

"You can convict someone based on their own admission, or you go through the process to adduce evidence that will prove that indeed the crime was committed," he said.

Degbee further disclosed that although the Court of Appeal had acquitted and discharged Tamakloe, she was still at the Nsawam Prison as of the time of the interview while officials completed the necessary administrative procedures for her release.

"She is still at Nsawam and we're going through the administrative process to secure her release today," he indicated.

The Court of Appeal on July 30, 2026, overturned the High Court's decision that sentenced the former MASLOC CEO to 10 years' imprisonment over financial offence-related charges.

The appellate court's ruling acquitted and discharged Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.
