Speaking to the media at the premises of the High Court on July 31, 2026, for the Tano Nimri case involving his client, Atta Akyea said that Chairman Wontumi remains in good spirits despite his conviction and imprisonment.

“He is very fine and in high spirits. He is also excited that we have lodged an appeal, and we will pursue it,” he said.

The lawyer stated that pursuing an appeal and applying for bail are the legal options available to his client, and his team intends to make full use of them.

“We will bring an application for bail pending appeal, so these are all the options we have, and we will exercise them properly,” he added.

Chairman Wontumi is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after he was convicted in the Samreboi illegal mining case.
