Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has stressed the need for the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, warning that technology should assist learners rather than determine their future.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Iddrisu said while AI represents the future of education and innovation, students must be properly guided on the responsible use of digital tools and educational technologies.

“AI is the future, but we should not allow AI to define the tomorrow of our learners. They need to be guided ethically and responsibly, especially in the online use of gadgets and educationally assisted technologies,” he said.

The Minister also highlighted government interventions aimed at improving access to tertiary education, particularly for students facing financial challenges.

He mentioned the implementation of the “No Fees Stress” initiative, which he said has provided financial support to thousands of students who would otherwise have struggled to access tertiary education.

“For instance, the introduction of the No Fees Stress, with which we have spent about GH₵980 million to support about 15,000 Ghanaians who could not have been able to access tertiary education,” he stated.

Iddrisu further noted that the government has extended free tertiary education support to persons living with disabilities as part of efforts to promote inclusive education.

He added that plans are in place to provide financial support to technical universities across the country through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), with each institution expected to receive GH₵10 million from next year.

According to him, these measures form part of broader efforts to expand educational opportunities while preparing students to adapt responsibly to emerging technologies.
