Pastor Kofi Bosomtwe has called on married couples to prioritise sexual intimacy in their relationships, warning that prolonged sexual deprivation in marriage can expose husbands to temptation and increase the risk of infidelity.

Speaking on AsetsePa with Akoto Mansa, the marriage counsellor stressed that while men have a responsibility to exercise self-control, wives also have a duty to make themselves available to their husbands and nurture intimacy within the home.

“The men have to be self-disciplined, but starvation from their wives can make them promiscuous. So I advise the women to give themselves to their husbands,” he said.

According to Pastor Bosomtwe, sexual intimacy is a natural and important aspect of marriage, arguing that many marital problems begin when couples neglect that part of their relationship.

“Every man loves sex, so their wives should give themselves to them,” he added.

He further noted that intimacy is not only beneficial to marriages but also contributes to an individual’s overall wellbeing. Citing research, he said a healthy sexual desire and the ability to engage in sexual activity are indicators of good health.

“Even studies have shown that the desire to have sex and the ability to do it means one is healthy,” he stated.

Pastor Bosomtwe also explained that intimacy does not begin in the bedroom but through effective communication between spouses. He observed that many couples spend so much time pursuing work and other commitments that they rarely have meaningful conversations, making it difficult to sustain emotional and physical closeness.

“Sex is initiated through communication, but some spouses rarely do that because they spend most of their time outside their home,” he said.

He therefore urged married couples to intentionally make time for one another, maintain open communication and cultivate healthy intimacy as part of efforts to build stronger and more stable marriages.
