President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has paid glowing tribute to Ghana’s former President Jerry John Rawlings, describing him as a distinguished African statesman, patriot and champion of justice.

The Gabonese leader made the remarks during a wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb of the late President Rawlings in Accra on July 30, 2026, as part of his official visit to Ghana.

President Nguema said Rawlings’ leadership and ideals continue to inspire generations across Africa, highlighting his contribution to the continent’s political development and pursuit of justice.

President Oligui Nguema arrived in Accra on July 28, 2026, for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic, and regional ties between Ghana and Gabon.

During his visit, he and President John Dramani Mahama had discussions on areas of mutual interest and Ghana-Gabon relations.

He also paid homage to Ghana’s historic leaders, including former President Jerry John Rawlings and Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, through wreath-laying ceremonies.
