Following the devastating floods that swept through Accra and several parts of Ghana on June 29, 2026, fresh concerns have emerged over the structural condition of the Alajo Bridge.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on July 30, 2026, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ADO-1 Alex King Nartey, described the current state of bridge as ‘very dilapidated’.

"As can be seen, the bridge is in a very bad condition. It's not on the verge of collapse, but it's in a very dilapidated state, and it requires urgent attention because people still use this," he indicated.

Nartey further noted that the bridge appeared slanted and warned that its condition could deteriorate further if another major flooding occurs.

"You can see visible cracks on the bridge. It's very, very slanted and can pose a very serious risk. It's a ticking time bomb which requires attention," he stated.

He appealed to the relevant authorities to inspect and rehabilitate the bridge as soon as possible to avert any potential disaster.

"I believe urgent attention is required in order to ensure public safety because looking at the kind of damage I'm seeing, if we should experience any such flood as we did a few weeks ago, I'm scared of what might happen," he added.

The concerns come exactly one month after the heavy rains that triggered widespread flooding across Accra and other parts of the country on June 29, 2026, renewing calls for authorities to assess critical infrastructure affected by the disaster.
