The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service rescued 1,202 human trafficking victims and secured eight convictions in 2025 as it intensified efforts to combat the crime.

According to the Director-General of the CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the CID headquarters received 127 cases in 2025, with 19 cases sent to court.

"In 2025 alone, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the CID headquarters received 127 cases, rescued 1,202 victims, sent 19 cases to court and secured aid convictions", she stated at a ceremony to commemorate 20 years since the passage of the Human Trafficking Act on July 30, 2026.

According to her, sustained national efforts and partnerships have contributed to Ghana maintaining its ranking in the United States Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons Report.

"Ghana has maintained its Tier 2 ranking in the US Department of State's Trafficking in Persons reports," she stated.

She noted that trafficking networks continue to evolve, requiring stronger collaboration and innovative approaches to identify victims, prosecute offenders and dismantle criminal networks.
