A widely circulated video showing a man allegedly being assaulted by individuals said to be staff of Bills Micro Credit has sparked public outrage on social media.
In the video, some agents alleged to be employees of the microfinance company are seen engaged in a heated confrontation with the man, who reportedly owes the company GH¢6,000.
According to reports, the man, a tailor, had obtained loans from Bills Micro Credit on 20 previous occasions and had consistently met his repayment obligations.
However, he allegedly defaulted on two recent weekly instalments totaling GH¢628, prompting the agents to visit his shop in an attempt to lock it up over the outstanding debt.
The situation reportedly escalated during the confrontation, resulting in the man being physically assaulted. The debtor later claimed that he sustained head injuries during the incident.
He has since lodged an official complaint with the police, who are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
The tailor maintains that he had always honoured his loan repayment commitments in the past and that the recent default was the first interruption in his repayment record.
