Chairman of the NPP Communications Committee, Nana Akomea, has alleged that several senior officials of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been cited for alleged involvement in illegal mining but have not been arrested.

Speaking on Peace FM on July 21, 2026, during discussions on the imprisonment of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, Nana Akomea questioned why Wontumi appeared to be the only person facing action while investigations into others had not resulted in any outcome.

According to him, the situation creates the impression of selective justice from the ruling government.

"Is it only Wontumi that was suspected of having engaged in illegal mining? There are a lot of NDC high-profile officials whose names have come up for their alleged involvement in galamsey. We were told investigations are ongoing into some of these NDC officials, but till now, we haven't heard anything about it," he said.

Akomea claimed he was aware of at least seven NDC officials who had been linked to illegal mining but declined to mention their names.

"When this happens, it appears there is selective justice or a scam. I don't want to mention their names, but I have at least seven NDC kingpins who have been cited for their involvement in illegal mining.

"Some are executive office holders, some are NDC Members of Parliament. There are a lot of reports on these people, but none of them have been arrested. Once this happens, it appears there is selective justice and must be addressed," he stated.

To support his claim of selective justice, Akomea cited the arrests of several individuals linked to the NPP over comments they had made.

He argued that similar actions had not been taken against persons associated with the NDC.

“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah was arrested for raising an alarm on how some people were demanding payments for a scholarship. Some NDC individuals, including a former and a sitting MP, had also made the same allegations but were not arrested. Why is NDC engaging in selective justice?” he questioned.
