The Special Aide to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, Rafik Mahama, has debunked claims that the businessman intends to acquire the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), describing the allegations as false, malicious and without any factual basis.

Responding to claims made during a demonstration by some members of the VALCO Labour Union on Monday, July 27, 2026, Rafik Mahama said Ibrahim Mahama has never expressed any interest in purchasing the state-owned aluminium company and has not submitted any offer to acquire it.

“The attention of Ibrahim Mahama has been drawn to a demonstration by the Labour Union of VALCO, during which some demonstrators alleged that he was interested in acquiring VALCO. We wish to state categorically that Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any offer to acquire VALCO,” he said.

Rafik Mahama further rejected suggestions that the businessman had any direct or indirect involvement in a company or consortium seeking to take over VALCO.

“Ibrahim Mahama has never expressed any interest, directly or indirectly, in acquiring VALCO, nor is he a shareholder, director, promoter, representative or participant in any company or consortium pursuing such an interest,” he stated.

He described the allegations as “entirely false, reckless and devoid of any factual basis”, adding that they appeared to have been deliberately fabricated to damage Ibrahim Mahama’s reputation.

Rafik Mahama said Ibrahim Mahama has built his business career over nearly four decades through enterprise, innovation, and strategic investments that have contributed to Ghana’s economic development.

He added that the businesses associated with Ibrahim Mahama were legally established or acquired and continue to operate within the country’s legal and regulatory framework.

He urged the public to disregard the claims linking Ibrahim Mahama to the acquisition of VALCO, stressing that the businessman remains committed to lawful business practices and contributing to Ghana’s socio-economic development through legitimate investments in Ghana and across Africa.
