The government has announced the resumption of the next phase of evacuations for Ghanaians residing in South Africa following xenophobic attacks targeting Africans in the country.

The development was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 25, 2026.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public, and Ghanaians resident in South Africa in particular, of the Government of Ghana’s decision to resume the next phase of evacuations of Ghanaians in South Africa following ongoing xenophobic attacks against migrants in that country,” the statement said.

According to the Ministry, the latest exercise, which is expected to cover close to 1,000 Ghanaians, will be conducted in phases.

“The latest phase of evacuations are expected to cover about 1,000 Ghanaians and will be done in groups. The first flights are scheduled to arrive in Accra on Sunday, July 26, and Monday, July 27, 2026,” the statement added.

It further indicated that priority would be given to women, children, the elderly, persons with medical conditions, and students.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged distressed Ghanaians in South Africa to contact the Ghana High Commission for further updates.

It also advised all Ghanaians in South Africa to remain calm, avoid areas of unrest, ignore provocations, and cooperate fully with officials of the Ghana High Commission to ensure a successful exercise.
