The Tema Regional Police Command has disclosed that it has shot dead a suspected armed robber following a gun battle at Zenu Obaatan in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, three other suspects escaped with suspected gunshot wounds, while a police officer sustained minor injuries and has since been treated and discharged.

Addressing the media, the police said officers launched surveillance operations at Zenu Obaatan on July 15 and 16, 2026, after receiving intelligence about the suspects' activities.

“Acting on the information, a police team conducted surveillance operations in the area on 15th and 16th July 2026. In the early hours of 16th July 2026, the team encountered four suspects. The suspects, who were armed, opened fire on the police. The police responded in self-defense,” he said.

DCOP Asiedu stated that one of the suspects was fatally wounded during the exchange of gunfire, while one officer sustained minor injuries.

“During the exchange, one suspect sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. One police officer also sustained a minor injury and has since been treated and discharged. Three other suspects escaped with injuries,” he continued.

He added that weapons and other items recovered from the scene have been retained as exhibits, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, the police have alerted all health facilities within the district to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds as investigations continue.
