The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has distanced its Security Taskforce from a viral video showing a police officer brandishing a firearm during a confrontation with personnel of a private towing company in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement dated July 22, 2026, the Assembly said its preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred around 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Roman Hill in the Central Business District of Kumasi.

According to the KMA, personnel of Day and Night Towing Service, a company contracted by the Assembly, had clamped a saloon car parked at an unauthorized location and were in the process of towing it when a uniformed police officer, identified as YE Aboagye, arrived to claim ownership of the vehicle.

The Assembly explained that the officer questioned the towing team's authority to remove the vehicle, leading to a heated verbal exchange.

"The police officer allegedly threatened to shoot personnel of the towing service in the foot if he attempted to tow the car," the statement said.

The KMA described the incident as ‘unfortunate and highly avoidable’ and stressed that its Security Taskforce was not involved in the confrontation.

"While condemning the incident, the Assembly wishes to state categorically that it did not involve its Security Taskforce. The public is therefore urged to disregard any false information linking the said video to the KMA Security Taskforce," the statement added.

The Assembly further disclosed that the matter has been formally reported to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation

The clarification follows the circulation of a video on social media showing a police officer brandishing a firearm during a heated exchange with personnel of Day and Night Towing Service, a towing company contracted by the Assembly.
