The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has secured the removal of restrictions on the export of Ghanaian eggs to Burkina Faso and the importation of tomatoes from the neighbouring country.

This follows a high-level bilateral talks aimed at strengthening trade between the two countries.

Burkina Faso introduced the restrictions as a precautionary measure following concerns over the quality of eggs imported from some exporting countries.

During a high level meeting with officials from Burkina Fasoon Friday July 17, 2026, the minister assured that the agreement is expected to bring relief to Ghanaian poultry farmers and egg exporters, particularly those in the Dormaa area, whose businesses had been affected by restrictions imposed by Burkina Faso.

"The outcome of the engagement provides relief for Ghanaian poultry producers and egg exporters, particularly those in the Dormaa area, whose exports had recently been affected by the restrictions," Ofosu-Adjare stated.

The government assured traders and businesses that it remains committed to protecting the interests of Ghanaian producers while deepening economic cooperation with neighbouring countries.

As part of the agreements reached, Ghana and Burkina Faso will establish a Joint Technical Committee to monitor trade between the two countries and resolve any challenges that may arise.

The two countries also agreed to work towards a Bilateral Trade Agreement aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, removing trade barriers and improving market access for goods and services.

The discussions further touched on Ghana's participation in this year's International Arts and Crafts Trade Fair (SIAO) in Burkina Faso, where the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry announced that Ghana would send a high-level delegation to showcase locally manufactured products and services.

According to the Ministry, Ghana's exports to Burkina Faso increased from US$573 million in 2024 to US$637 million in 2025, reflecting growing trade between the two neighbouring countries.

The Ghanaian delegation included Ghana's Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Sem Kenneth Akibate, officials from the Ghana Embassy, technical officers from the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry and representatives of the private sector, including egg exporters.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that trade between them remains uninterrupted and beneficial to traders, producers and consumers on both sides.
